What to Expect From Your HVAC Service Call | Teems Electric

Maintaining your heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system is an important part of homeownership. In most seasons, heating or cooling is vital to your house remaining comfortable inside—which is why many people choose to have their annual HVAC service call in the spring, before the heat of summer kicks in!

While getting your HVAC system serviced without anything being wrong may seem counterintuitive, it is actually the best way to ensure that your system provides you with fantastic service for many years to come. During an annual checkup, you can be sure that everything within your system is operating as it should, and address any small issues before they become large ones that can take your system out of commission.

Below, we will detail what an annual HVAC service call entails so you know what to expect!

What an Annual HVAC Service Call Entails

Checking the exterior components of the HVAC system. Generally, a technician will start by checking the outdoor components of your system. This can include cleaning the condenser fins that run along the exterior of the unit, adding oil to the ports and examining the electrical connections to make sure all the wires are still in good shape.

Checking the filter and thermostat. After the exterior maintenance is done, the technician will come inside to check the thermostat and your filters. Filters should be replaced every 30 to 90 days, so they may install a new one for you. They will also make sure that your thermostat is properly calibrated and communicating with the system.

Inspecting the condensation drain. Your HVAC system will build up condensation as it runs, which will drain into a designated area. The technician will check this system to make sure the system is pulling condensation out of the air properly and draining it away in the correct manner so you can avoid leaks or clogs down the road.

Looking for leaks, corrosion or dirt throughout. In addition to these specific maintenance items, your technician will be on the lookout for any signs that something may be amiss. Leaks, corrosion around electrical components and debris can all get in the way of your system doing its job and should be addressed immediately.
