Tips for a Thrifty Fall

September, and with it Labor Day, symbolizes the unofficial passing of summer into fall, and with that, a changing of the guard for habits of the season. So what fall habits can you adopt to make the budget last a little bit longer?

Well, this year, it’s time to think outside the box. This year, it’s time to make a change for the better. This year, it’s time to cut costs like you haven’t before—think of all the money you could save on everyday expenses and use for more enjoyable purposes.

Here are three ways to have a thriftier fall:

1) Turn down the AC

With the weather having cooled off since the height of the summer, you can afford to tame the AC usage a bit. Turn up the thermostat (or turn it off), allow for more air from outside and enjoy a lower monthly utility bill.

2) Plan free, outdoor activities

During the hottest parts of the summer, free activities for kids, such as playing in the park or having a picnic, are simply too difficult to be worth the effort at times. Now that it’s cooler, take a day off from the movie theatre and throw the baseball in the backyard.

3) Cut the commute

Want to save a bit on gas? If you live close to work, consider walking. Not only will you save on gas, you’ll get a bit of daily exercise in, as well.
