Steer Clear of Electrical Hazards This Summer | Teems Electric

Can you believe it’s already July? This summer is flying by. But since summer is still going to linger for a while, it’s time to brush up on some summer safety!

That’s why our team at Teems Electric wants to share some tips about staying safe around electrical hazards.

Get Outside and Play!

When was the last time you went outside and purposefully looked to see where all the electrical hazards were, such as telephone poles and electrical lines?

This is now your new mission the next time you step outside with your family and friends. Make sure everyone knows the areas they need to avoid when playing outdoors this summer.

In addition, you want to make sure you are following these electrical safety tips:

First, you never want to play near a power line. Not only is it dangerous for any part of your body to touch a power line, but even doing so with a stick or other object could cause you to suffer from electrical shock if the power line is live.

Second, although you might have fun climbing trees during the summer, utility poles are not for climbing.

If you are out flying a kite or drone, keep them away from power lines. Only fly them in open spaces where trees and utility poles are not near, such as a local park or even a baseball field.

Finally, don’t forget to check the weather before heading outdoors.

Although the number of deaths each year due to lightning strikes is low, serious injury and death can occur. Therefore, make safety a priority by staying indoors until the weather clears up.
