How To Stay Warm and Save Money This Winter

As the winter carries on, the low temperatures grow even lower daily, leaving many people to decide whether or not they are going to constantly run heat in their home. While this may absolve you of the cold, it also comes with the unfortunate side effect of running up the utility bill.

However, what if there was a way to keep warm at a minimal cost to your wallet?

Here are three ways to show creativity while staying warm this winter:

1) Break out the blankets.
A classic solution for a reason, the blanket can provide quite a bit of warmth in a pinch. No, most blankets can’t compete with having the heat running in your house, but a compromise of both could do the trick. Consider lowering your thermostat by two degrees from your standard winter temp while using a blanket around your house, for the best combination of heat and warmth.

2) Keep the doors closed.
One of the keys to lowering your heating bill is keeping the heat inside. Simply encouraging guests and residents to quickly close the door upon entering your house should allow for more heat to stay inside, and more dollars to stay in your bank account.

3) Build a fire.
There’s nothing quite as comforting as having a roaring fire going in the fireplace. If you have a fireplace in your home, consider building a fire at night in order to keep the area warm for a few hours, if properly tended to. Plus, the work of cutting the firewood and bringing it inside will provide extra heat through the workout you’ll get, a win-win!
