How to Save Energy at Work

If you own your own small business, you know the drill. Each day, your employees are coming in and out of the office, getting work done, accomplishing goals, but oftentimes they all share one vital shortcoming in terms of turning a profit: energy efficiency.

Believe it or not, managing the energy bill is often the difference between profit and breaking even for a local small business. If you’re a small business owner, the easiest way to ensure that your business is energy efficient is by talking to your employees and training them on the matter.

Here are three ways your employees can help save energy:

1) No More Sleep Mode
A common myth in energy efficiency is that leaving your computer on sleep mode is just as efficient as actually turning it off. While power-saving mode is effective for a quick trip to the bathroom or maybe even lunch, it simply does not do the trick overnight. You would be better off powering down each evening.

2) Bathroom Lights
Speaking of bathroom trips, make sure that your employees remember to turn off the lights when they leave the restroom. Even just the bathroom can add a significant amount to the monthly energy bill.

3) Unplug Chargers
When your phone is done charging, not only should you unplug your phone, you actually should unplug the charger as well. Informing your employees of this could lead to a surprisingly large amount of energy savings.
