Electrical Safety Tips for Fall

Although we might still have a few more weeks left before the temperatures really begin to drop, it is never too early to discuss ways you can prevent electrical dangers from occurring during the fall season.

Let’s take a look at some ways you can keep your family safe this fall:

First, if you are using electric blankets to keep your bed warm this fall and winter, you want to ensure you do not tuck them under a mattress or put them on a comforter or bedspread.

Also, you want to make sure your electric blanket is certified by an independent testing lab, such as UL, CSA or ETL.

Second, as the leaves begin to fall this season, you want to make sure you keep the dry leaves safely swept away from any outdoor lighting, power cords and/or electrical outlets.

Are you getting ready to put away your spring/summer equipment for your lawn? Then you want to make sure you keep battery chargers unplugged and safely stored until the spring season rolls around again.

In addition, you want to make sure the warm-weather tools (such as lawn mowers and trimmers) are safely stored with the batteries and the cold-weather tools like the leaf blowers are ready to be used again after hiatus.

If any parts to cold-weather tools are torn or worn, you want to make sure they are repaired and/or replaced correctly before use for safety.
