Can Grilling Save Me Money in the Summer? | Teems Electric

Cooking is a great alternative to eating out if you are trying to save money, but cooking in the summer can be a tough thing to enjoy! Not only does using your stove and oven make things uncomfortably warm, but it also requires quite a bit of electricity—both to power the cooking appliances and to power your AC system, which has to work harder to keep things cool.

This is one of the many reasons why grilling is a great summertime activity. Not only are you able to enjoy your outdoor space and make the most of the extra daylight, but you are also able to save quite a bit in cooling costs, too!

Plus, grilling is so much more than hot dogs and burgers—there are so many interesting foods that can be cooked on your grill that you will never get bored!

How to Save Money by Grilling in the Summer

Do all your prep in advance. While propane and charcoal are much cheaper than running your AC on full blast, they also cost money to use. To make sure you are making the most of your energy sources, prepare all of your food in advance so it is ready as soon as the grill is. Grills heat up quite quickly, so preheating the grill while you prepare the food can often waste money.

Stay outside as much as possible. It is inevitable that something will be left inside that needs to be brought out, but as much as possible, try to keep from repeatedly opening exterior doors when you grill. Letting the outside air in also lets the cool air out, which can cause your HVAC system to work harder than it needs to.

Use only the burners you need. When we say “fire up the grill,” we do not necessarily mean to fire it up completely! A smart way to save on your grilling costs is by only using the number of burners you need to cook your food. Otherwise, you will be using excess propane and fuel to heat up a segment of the grill you are not using.
